New owner

Post by Andygbsmith » Fri Jul 29, 2016 1:31 pm

Hi everyone. I have just bought a SE.
Had a couple of 990s over the years and have a 1190 as well at the moment. I got fed up with all the tech and the bikes getting heavier and heavier.
Im loving the SE so far, done about 500 miles 50 off road. Need to get a decent bash plate, side-stand relocator and some different tyres, currently fitted with Pirelli Scorpions. I was going to try A K60.
So the 1190 is going and the SE fun starting.

Welcome aboard (eventually) I think you made the right choice but Wazza would not agree as he went the other way. Look forward to seeing posts of your progress.

Welcome, welcome, Andy!

Private message me, and I'll share my experiences with tires and bash plates.

I've been off-road a few times with adventure bikes while riding my SE. There is no comparison. The SE has a good bit more off-road prowess. IMHO adventure bikes are dirty touring bikes and the SE is a large displacement rally race bike. One really sees the difference off road. Both great machines, but different.

Where in the world are you?

Thanks guys, I will pm you power slide,
I have already got a bash plate sorted, coming from Canada along with lots of help from an inmate.
The bike has a 2 into 1 pipe but is running rich, I'm thinking of modding the airbox
For ease of serving so will look at it then.

I guess the journey starts here.

Welcome aboard!

If it's a bash plate from Mike at MotoVenture then you'll be mighty pleased, I got one just the other day and it's superb. I asked Mike to leave mine in aluminium so I have given it a once over with 7477 Scothbrite and it looks splendid.

Side relocator - the best comes from Charlie on the KTM UK Forum.

Tyres - my suggestions would be either a Mitas E09 Dakar on the back, or maybe a Mefo Super Explorer. For the front consider either TKC80 or MT21 for general use, or Mefo Enduro Master for dedicated offroad, but there as many opinions as there are tyres!

I'm just starting to look at sag and shock spring rates. I'm almost certainly going to change mine to get some sensible sag values - watch this space.

Hi Wornsprockets,
Yes it one of Mikes, he said he had just shipped one to the Uk.
I have contacted Charlie for a side stand relocator.
Just want to get some miles on it.

Bike looks great Andy,
I will have to start hunting down some bits I want, starting with a centre stand.
