Re Fuel pump points - IMO much overstated issue. Points on my first lasted until 15,000 miles when I replaced them as a precautionary measure with points obtained via Ebay. An easy but fiddly job. (the original points were mullered).

A friend's pump began to show signs of "sticky" points but ran on with occasional stops for another 10k miles!

Another friend had fitted the (dreaded) Facet pump which failed without warning in Morocco - if we hadn't been carrying an installed spare his holiday would have been toast!

So a maintained OEM is fine IMO - having said that I'm just about to fit a DrBean kit - why?

Because I'm worth it!

Congrats on a great find !

My fuel pump lasted until 12,000 too and then ran on for another 2k. I bought a new KTM pump and a new set of points from Wemoto for the old pump so could carry as a spare. Dont know how you would easily get it out of that rubber boot holder on the trail ? New boot is less than 15 quid if I remembr right so left the old one on the old pump for easy re-fitting.

On the water pump, wasnt the "sand casting" issue/cause traced to a batch of ADVs in the end ?

Thank you all for your comments!

I too found that the sand casting issue was related to some early adv's (not sure where I read that - think it might have been on the 'HOW' site)

You're building quite the KTM collection there, Eric!

When/where's your first rally on the puddle jumper?

Hellas in Greece in May. Cann't wait. Even if I'm last but finish I'll be happy.

Not getting above my skill level. :D

So the need for a work bike pulled the SE out of my hands only a short time after I had purchased it.

I bought an Africa Twin to be the work Horse of the future in the bike training school and the 950 adv s was also traded at the same time.

I did the Hellas Rally on the 525 and finished 124th out of the 210. That could have been much better had the bike not given issues so the bike was repaired on my return and I traded it last week against the 950 SE.

So she is back and is starting her transformation to rally bike and a trip back to the Hellas.

Eric, are you planning to do Hellas on the SE in May 2018? If so then we should connect and and also connect with Nikos (he's in Mold, Wales) as the three of us can pool our resources for SE prep for it - maybe even figure out how to share parts and spares as required...
