950 SE 2006/57 New Price £5,750

Post by Tonto » Thu Feb 16, 2017 7:34 pm

Edit: 14/08/2017 - Having seen a couple come up elsewhere, since I set original price, I'm dropping price to £5,750 in line with what I've seen and will give it a bit more time on here before an e-bay or keep it decision

Well the time has come to make some room and fund another project. I sourced my SE over 4 years ago now from an SE forum inmate and seems fitting to put it up here first.

Basics are.......
16,800 miles (increasing slightly in current use) First registered 24/10/2007
Just had 2 year / main service including valve clearances plus ultrasonic carb clean
Used as intended 80/20 tarmac/off-road
In in good order and comes with good service history.
Both keys, Key code card, Service Card, Service Book, Owners Manual etc
Looks about 9/10 condition in the pics but I would say 7.5 or 8 'in the flesh'

.....If the basics are interesting then read on (I have a PDF with details and pics but cant attach here - pdf extension not allowed) so text pasted below and I can PM the pdf if interested.

Generally everything is in good order and has just had main (9500/2 Year) KTM dealer service at 16,724 miles with valve clearances and ultrasonic carb clean. Cosmetically the worst bits are a couple of minor scuffs on the frame and a slight kink on the LH sub frame in the usual place at the passenger peg mount.
MoT with no advisories was Nov 2016. No advisories either on all previous MoT tests 2011 -2015. She gets presented for MoT in regular 'as maintained' state

V5C, both keys, service card, key code card, service book, owner manual and spare parts manuals present.

Modifications/Extras
It has useful mods like Raptor Foot pegs, bespoke oil tank bracing, voltage regulator heat deflector, HD bash plate, folding mirrors (those well solid Zen Overland ones) and its running a 2 into 1 exhaust with Fuel Silencer (removable baffle) It has mini LED indicators tucked in on the rear which I've wired to flash at the proper rate. It also came with some Touratech farkles (front sprocket guard, frame protectors, rear brake cylinder guard) There is also a chain oiler fitted that I don't use. (It flings too much oil front/rear but I’ve only used gear oil in it / not the dedicated Scott type stuff)

Items Not Fitted:
5 litre auxiliary, gravity fed, fuel tank with plumbing (needs KTM fuel tap - 58507003200),
Clear Rally screen from ‘www.screensforbikes.com’ / Australia
New Golan fuel filter
New throttle/bar grips
New graphics for the rear plastics (The Black and Grey 950R panels)
Also, have spare oil screens for quicker oil changes.

Service Book - Dealer stamps

6 Previous owners @ 989 / 4,355 / 7,695
My ownership @ 11,058 / 13,116 / 16,724 (including receipts and KTM job sheets for period of my ownership)

All the dealer services, except for the 7,695 are KTM dealer services. The main (9,500) Services were 11,058 and 16,724 (valve clearances etc.) Ultrasonic Carb clean was also done with this most recent service. See over page for Service Schedule

Basically, I've kept its dealer service history going and otherwise maintained to the same level as my Rally Bike which was the 450 Husky that ABR magazine took out for their 11 day Balkans trial ride. (ABR Issue Jan/Feb 2017 page 70 onwards)

Topical Items
Fuel pump – replaced with a new KTM pump at 15,375 miles (old pump and new points kit saved for use as a spare with pump still in its rubber mounting boot for easier trail side change)

Water Pump - Not known if it's been done before I got her. Not lost any coolant in 4 years and it will be well clear of any of the 'sand in casting' batch issues which I believe has now been tracked down as only affecting some early Adventure models anyway.

Clutch - Actuation is fine (same feel as my 690 was) with easy 1/2 finger pull for me so never gone for the Oberon slave mod.

Side stand - was told it has the relocater mod but I can't tell the difference just looking at pics

Battery – Will be renewed before sale as resting voltage (bike stood for a week) is down to 12.5 volts.

Spokes - Remarkably good for an SE.

Wheels - Straight and round with new bearings in the rear at 11,058

Rear Shock - Usual peeling/discolouration on the spring coating.

Headlamp mask - Drilled and pinned at the lower mounting points (bouncing points if not pinned)

Tyres - Will leave that to you. Mefo Super Explorer on rear squaring off and a Karroo 3 on the front. Got a couple of part worn Maxxis ITs that will need the mousse lube cleaning out first. A couple of slightly worn Michelin comps too so the front might be of interest.

Cheers, Tony

Bike is now listed on ebay just now at a 5995 buy it now price.

Previous prospective buyer pulled out after a week or so for good personal reason / family related circumstances.

Price on here still stands for existing inmates. (So PM me in this case)

ebay is worth a look for pics because they are at full size. (Not sure why they didnt turn out at full size on here)

Good luck with the sale, hope to all goes well. You've peeked my interest with respect to the drilled and pinned headlight mask - would you mind sharing details or bigger pictures to explain that?

Thank you

Sorry cant send pics as she's gone to a good home.

It was the perevious owner who did the mod but how he explained it to me was that he carefully drilled a small hole in the plastic posts that the mask sits on and used an R Clip or Split pin through the hole to better retain the mask, which it does. R clips are better for me as many times reusable. Long nose pliers help remove and refit.

Prep is take care really on what is a small hole in a small plastic post. As a reference I was repairing Kawasaki handlebar switch gear the other day using a section cut from a slightly bigger R clip than used on the SE and remember the hole I drilled by hand (good drill bit held in a tap wrench) was 2.5mm dia.
