Water pump shaft in the lc8 2007/08 se

Post by Eric » Wed Feb 15, 2017 5:02 pm

Does the water pump still need replacing in the SE so soon.

I did the change on my 2004 adv s at 25,000 kms and it did need doing. I replaced it with a 990 up graded shaft. I replaced that at 60,000kms and there was hardly a mark on it.

I now have 80,000 kms on the bike so recon I'll push this one to 100,000 kms (40,000 on the shaft) and check it then.

The 950 se been that it's a 2007 bike surely has that up graded shaft?

Is it still has the original 950 water pump seal so and needs replacing around 25,000km.

Thankfully not any time soon on mine.

The New type PTFE shaft seal is gray in colour.
The original old style is red.

As always on the LC8 engine keep a very close eye on coolent and oil levels.
Any variation in these levels could mean a compromised water pump seal/shaft ( especially coolent disappearing )

Its a quick easy job, and maybe preventative maintenance is the best way to protect your engine and confidence in reliability.

Just my opinion.
