Mitas E09 tyres

Post by SE Rob » Sat Dec 01, 2012 8:49 pm

Just fitted a pair of Mitas E09 tyres to replace a worn 908rear and Karoo on the front.

First comment - the back 140 was the hardest tyre I've ever fitted. (& I've done a few....)
Even checked it was not 17" at one point!
Several cycles of up to 80psi & deflation failed to seat it correctly. Absolute b'stard tyre!

The rear has very deep blocks so should grip well  the front is less knobbly than a MT21 front. :?

I'll update after they've had a proper test on & off road.

Morning Whippersnapper!

All is OK with me, thanks.

Re tyres, for general use preferred front is MT 21 definitely.
Rear, more of a challenge, basically nothing lasts long! Longest life comes from 908RR but I don't rate it in mud or rocks.
Anything better off road seems to be shot within 800-1000 miles.

On the rallies, I used enduro tyres with mousses, these gripped even when worn. I think it is primarily
Because the mousse is now so soft it is equivalent to about <10psi.

The mousses are....... interesting on a (private) Tarmac surface.

I'm hoping the Mitas is good, not least because I'm not looking forward to getting the fooking thing orf!

Anyway with your limp riding style I would imagine any thing round & black will do!
(by the way, where did you buy stabilisers to fit your SE?)

Had a major issue fitting a Mefo Super Explore on the rear what a PITA! Great tyre so far on some loose trails and excellent on the road.

+1 on the MT21 up front.

The SE is difficult to find good boots for! perhaps we need a 950SE tyres thread?

Does not matter what you put on the back of it, it will rip it up in no time!

My best combo is Pirelli rally front and 908 rear. The Pirelli front is the best of the six tires I've tried both on and off road. Tried the Pirelli matching rear but 950 shredded it instantly. Would like to find option for rear as Dunlop will not make that one size only tire forever. My Dunlop rep tells me they claim to lose money on every one, not sure I buy that but with such a narrow usage I wonder about future. Looking forward to reports on the mefo.
Save the environment, reduce tire wear, elevate the forward wheel.

I had a E09 on the rear - lasted about 100 miles... Loved it, but it just threw knobs like crazy.

Heat cycle the tires before you let er rip.

I had a 140 e09 dakar on the 950 adventure and it lasted about 4000km.
