My Se needs to be taller!

Post by beddowsm » Wed Oct 03, 2018 7:56 am

Ive always thought my SE was a bit low. The seat must be an after market so I have finally replaced it with an OEM one. The new seat makes the riding position 30mm higher. But Im still flat footed when on it with a bend in my knees when riding (Im 6' 4").

Basically, I want it taller. Could do with raising it an inch or 2.

What are my options, or is it just tough luck, ride as is.

So I'd say:
1- confirm that it has never been lowered (assuming you're not the original owner)
2- consider installing an ADV rear shock conversion and then extending the forks to match.

The shock can be taken to 278mm travel which will raise the back of the bike by 25mm (1 inch) and its performance is light years ahead of the SE shock. I mention this because I truly believe that spending one single penny on an SE shock is an utter waste once you've ridden an SE with a properly setup adv shock. The forks can also be extended to match without changing lower fork tubes using the right internal parts (shorter hydraulic stops, etc.) as the SE shares a lot of fork parts with the 690/701 and they can go to 275mm travel to match the extended rear. I'm 6'3" and I've gone halfway between the stock 250/255 travel to about 265/270mm and am loving it.

I live in Runcorn in the North West.

What measurements should I be looking for to prove its its been lowered?

Post some photos of the rear shock and forks - maybe measure the distance between the fork seal and the bottom of the tube where it meets the fork leg and we can compare.

Have you compared your seat height to stock seat height (38 inches)? That may give you a little direction.

Good call. 38"......mines no where near. With the new standard seat, the lowest point in 35.5". So it definitely appears to have been lowered.

So in the first pic the shock is half way on the threads. Could this be altered? Up or down?
